For some reason, I was feeling really stressed out this past Sunday. The normal preparations had been made earlier in the week so that not much needed to be done for the services, but I felt an unusually large amount of pressure from the day.
My parents were in town, but that could not have been the cause. They have been to church many times while I have been on the stage. Maybe it was caused by a couple of the volunteers being sick. But their spots were quickly covered, and so that was not a worry. The only thing I can think of was that I was stressing out that I was stressed.
No reason can be given. It was a Sunday just like any other Sunday. Matt and I had planned out the service to last just as long as we needed it to in order to fill the time allotted. Everyone in the band remember what we practiced, I did not break a guitar sting, and everything on the presentation (other than one verse) was just fine.
The only thing that pulled me through the morning was the fact that whatever was going to happen was happening whether I could control it or not. I prayed, “God, today is in your hands.” and everything went well.
It got me thinking, however, how many people are being stressed out right now due to the economy? I know that some people have their entire retirement plan shrinking because of what has been happening in recent history. But are we in control of that?
There is no sense in worrying about today or tomorrow. God has it under control. Matthew 10:28-31 reads; “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
We should not worry about what is happening in the world around us. It may affect us, but God will take care of us. Not only will He take care of us, but our families as well. So stop worrying about the economy. If the American government becomes socialism, communism, or whatever, God is still God, and we are still his people.
