Jewels of Joliet
18 June, 2008As time moves on, Joliet is feeling more and more like a home. I am not only meeting people, but developing several good friendships. Joliet is also becoming a place that I enjoy living. Several ‘jewels’ of the city have been discovered since my coming here, so here they are.
Disc Replay - Many of you know that I have a love for vinyl, as well as video games. Disc Replay has used games (at a decent price), and even carries older games dating back to the original NES. Though they do not carry near the selection of used albums as other store I frequent, they do have the ability to special order records. Having the option is quite nice.
Baby Back Blues – BBQ has never been something I craved or wanted… until Baby Back Blues. They just do it so well, and everything is fairly priced. If you go there, get the pulled pork. Excellent. My digestive system should be enjoying this on a regular basis.
Portillo’s – Though not authentic to Joliet (like Disc Replay), Portillo’s is a local restaurant to Chicago. This place does Italian beef and sausage with excellence; not to mention the environment is reminiscent of the 1920’s.
Bike Trails – My apartment is right of a bike trail that connects to several others in the area. Most of it is paved, which makes for a very smooth ride. With my new bike, I should be making much use of these trails… not to mention the terrible gas prices.
Disc Golf - Yesterday I had the joy of playing disc golf. Two summers have passed since I played last. I almost forgot how much fun it was. The park in Joliet will be seeing much more of Mick, that is for sure. And best of all, playing is free!
Joliet is becoming more of home every day. If you know of places in the area, please let me know. I love discovering more ‘jewels.’
