Children of Men

Over two weeks have passed since starting Children of Men. In case you are wondering, P. D. James’ book inspired the film in which Clive Owen starred. Unfortunately, the read was not near as exciting as it could have been due to the fact that I just recently viewed the movie, however, still worth the effort.

The movie is actually only the second half of this book, and as most movie adaptations, it’s not totally true to the book.  The world that James creates is in utter turmoil, with no hope of the future.  You see how corrupt the ruling power has become, and how a small group tries to save humanity.

I generally love reading books that have a post-apocalyptic feel to them, and this fits the bill.  Is it the state of man and their urge to survive that keeps me enticed to such novels?  I can’t really say.  But I can say that this was and enjoyable read.

Books are generally better than the movies… at least in the case where the novel predates the big-screen. Unfortunately in a suspense story like this, not knowing what happens in the end really helps to keep the interest perked.
